There isn’t a lot of things in this busy hectic life which can make you smile without a reason. But Flash Mob’s across the world is providing you one such reason. A flash mob means a group of people assembling at one place and dancing in unison to one single tune. Once the music stops, every one disperses as they don’t know each other. But the dance and fun during the song leaves a smile on the faces of those watching.
Flash Mob is a very new concept in India. US, UK and Australia have seen a lot of flash mob’s in the past few years, some small and some big involving thousands of people dancing. In India, the concept is just taking off. It was held in some malls and people thought it’s just a dance group performance. But when some 200 odd people danced to Rang De Basanti’s song at CST Station, Mumbai on a busy Sunday evening, people took notice.
Flash Mob at Mumbai CST Railway Station
The concept of Mumbai Flash Mob was simple. On 27th Nov, Sunday evening, on a usual busy day at the CST station, RDB’s music starts to play. A girl comes forward and begins dancing to tune of Rang De Basanti and one by one people start joining. Soon, there’s an odd group of 200 people shaking to the amusement of the Sunday crowd at CST Railway station. These dancers did not do it to for money, nor were they trying to promote a cause. The dance just says come out and enjoy. Have fun, dance, entertain everyone, enjoy and go. No strings attached. That’s what the flash mob is all about.

Soon after Mumbai, Delhi tried to organize a similar flash mob today, but as we know Delhi is not really home to an easy going and open culture. When people gathered at a market in Delhi and were about to start their free-flowing dance, Delhi police barged in and stopped the proceedings to the disappointment of a lot of people. Flash Mob is happening across the world and this may be the first such instance where police stopped people from simply dancing, where no provocations were involved! Maybe next time when it happens in Delhi, the police will let it happen and enjoy it as well. Though Delhi Flash Mob did not work out as planned, it’s being said that the group later went to the Priya complex and performed there.
Un-till then, just keep smiling and keep a look out for the next flash mob. Who knows, next time you are at the mall or the railway station, you may be lucky enough to witness one or become part of one!
