Star News releases Uttar Pradesh Assembly election opinion poll

Star News has released Uttar Pradesh Assembly election opinion poll today which shows that BSP is facing a major setback, but overall UP is headed towards a coalition Govt with major gains by SP and Congress.

Uttar Pradesh elections 2012
are going to be held around April-May in 2012 but things are already heating up. Mayawati played a master stroke by trying to divide the state in 4 different states, Congress has unleashed Rahul Gandhi across UP and SP is hoping of a comeback to power. BJP is trying to regain lost grounds this year but it’s campaigning till now has been a low key affair. No one knows who the Chief Ministerial candidate from BJP is or what is BJP’s actual poll agenda.

UP Assembly polls

Star News-Nielsen Opinion Poll released today for Uttar Pradesh suggests that BSP is going to lose around 86 seats from their 2007 results and will end up with just 120 seats. SP will gain about 38 seats and win 135 seats. Congress is said to be the biggest gainer and will increase it’s tally three-folds from last year polls and get around 68 seats. BJP will improve its figures but won’t make any substantial difference to their prospects and it will end 4th with just 65 seats. Congress ally for the polls RLD will get 10 seats in Paschim Pradesh region.

Major gains for SP and Congress are in Purvanchal and Awadh region, where BSP is lagging behind. BJP will do well in Paschim Pradesh as expected, but SP and BSP will not be far behind in that region. Even in Bundelkhand, Congress will gain 5 seats of a total of 19, while 9 will go to SP.

The Star News poll suggests a coalition Govt. If that happens, the only viable alternative will be that SP will join hands with Congress and form the Govt under Mulayam Singh Yadav. Currently, Rahul Gandhi may be campaigning against SP in UP but we all know that if above results come true, on one pretext or another, SP and Congress will forget all animosity and suddenly become best of friends.

Assembly elections
are scheduled in 6 states in 2012.
