CWG scam accused Suresh Kalmadi

We all know by now that nothing much eventually happens to the high and mighty politicians in India. From the BOFORS case to Fodder scam in 1990’s and the recent 2010 CWG Games and 2G scams, we have not seen any politician getting a life imprisonment. Yes, they go to the jail for a few months, they remain there till the scam is washed off the public memory and then they are released back to the community to commit bigger and greater scams. 2G scam accused Kanimozhi and several others were released from prison last year and now Suresh kalmadi has walked out of prison with a smile. Along with kalmadi, his loyalist and co-accused V K Verma was also granted bail.

Kalmadi and V K Verma were accused of awarding a contract to a Swiss firm to install a Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system for the Commonwealth Games at increased rates, and the total loss was calculated to be around Rs 90 crore. We all know CWG scam emerged as the most shocking scams of all times as many politicians from ruling Congress party were framed in it and the scam brought International shame on us.

What was more shocking than the news of Kalmadi’s release was the way Indian Olympic Association officials reacted. Vice president of IOA, Tarlochan Singh told reporters that there was no opposition to Suresh Kalmadi returning back as the President of IOA. It’s quite obvious that all the crimes committed by Kalmadi has been forgiven by these officials and the shame he brought to the country quickly forgotten. Soon, we may see him heading back country’s IOA and may even see him representing India in London Olympic Games. Makes us all aware how motivated our Govt is towards fighting corruption.
