Snowfall in Shimla, Manali sends shivers in North India

Shimla, Manali and several parts of Himachal Pradesh and J&K saw snowfalls which also decreased the temperatures across North India.

Apart from Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, even UP, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan have seen temperatures dipping to near zero on Saturday. Some places in Punjab received snowfall for the first time in decades and Kangra Valley in Himachal received its first snowfall in 35 years. Shimla received 15-30 cms of snow and had temperatures around -0.7 C. Manali was even colder at -2 C and temperatures in Dalhousie were not far behind. Minimum temperature at Chiru and Mt Abu in Rajasthan has also been near zero.

Weather forecast for Manali

J&K witnessed heavy snowfall and Kashmir was even cut-off from the rest of the country. Jammu-Srinagar highway was blocked because of snow and people had to spend entire night without power as power transmissions from the Norther grid failed again.

Meanwhile, Delhi has been seeing some rainfall, which has led to fog-less mornings. However, the days have been chilly and temperatures have been well below the normal levels.

Met officials have a forecast of colder days ahead with possibility of more rainfall.
