Election Commission of India has declared the dates for holding elections in the states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Gujarat will go to polls in Dec while Himachal Pradesh will go to polls in Nov, results will be declared on 20th Dec 2012.
Gujarat will see the elections held in two phases. The first phase will have 87 constituencies going to poll on 13th Dec and the second phase will be held on 17th Dec across 95 assembly constituencies.
Himachal Pradesh has 68 Assembly constituencies and the elections here will be held in one single phase. The state will vote on 4th Nov.
Both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are crucial for the future of two big political parties in India – BJP and Congress. BJP rules in both the states and a good showing will help it on its way of campaigning hard for the 2014 elections. But if Congress can win some seats from the BJP or goes on to form a Govt in either of the states, it will give an immense boost to the party.
