Gujarat Assembly Elections Phase 1 sees 67 percent voting

Gujarat Assembly elections 2012 started today with the voting in Phase 1 where 67% polling was recorded. Over 12 million votes were polled which will decide the vote of candidates in 87 constituencies.

This was the highest voting percentage in these regions surpassing 61.54% of votes received in 2002 elections. The overall polls were peaceful and without any untoward incidences. It will go a long way in deciding Narendra Modi’s future in Gujarat as he looks for a re-election for the third time.

Experts have suggested that Narendra Modi will lead the first round of elections 2 seats to 1 against the Congress. The second phase is scheduled on 17th Dec 2012 with the counting of votes and Gujarat + Himachal election results scheduled for 20th Dec.
