The Oscars Night of 2009

Oscar 2009 was held on the night of 22nd Feb at The Kodak Theater at Hollywood and had all that an Oscar Awards ceremony is supposed to have: amazing orchestra, brilliant sets, witty presenters, and lot of emotions. Amidst the celebration of movies, actors and fine performances, Oscar's 2009 became global in its true sense. While a movie made based on slums of Mumbai, the Slumdog Millinaire, won 8 Oscar, the Indian audience was pleased to see a short documentary named "Smile Pinki" achieving an Oscar as well. Oscar's also went to Japan and Spain (as in Penelope Cruz!).

Hugh Jackman, the presenter for the Oscar Night of 2009, started it all at the biggest event in Hollywood, the 81st Annual Academy Awards, with an entertaining song and dance performance. He was joined by Best Actress nominee Anne Hathaway. 'Confess to me,' was the song they chose.
The new format of presenting Oscar by 5 of the past awardees was a pleasant surprise to all. Eva Marie Saint, Whoopi Goldberg, Tilda Swinton, Goldie Hawn, and Anjelica Huston announced the winner as Penelope Cruz for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Jennifer Aniston and Jack Black came in to present the award for the best animated file, which went to Wall E.

Actor Ben Stiller, in an apparent spoof to Joaquin Phoenix's eccentric behaviour, came to present the awards with Star Wars actress Natalie Portman.

Steve Martin and Tina Fey had everyone rolling with laughter when they came in to present the awards at the Oscar.

Kate Winslet won the Best Actress Award for her role in "The Reader". 5 former best actress winners Sophia Loren (centre), Nicole Kidman (top right-bottom), Shirley MacLaine, Halle Berry and Marion Cotillard were on stage to present her with her award.
Old is Gold proverbial truth was seen again at the Oscar Night on 2009 as Sean Penn won the Best Actor Award for his role in "Milk". Sean Penn (second right) is joined backstage by the Academy Award presenters Ben Kingsley (left), Robert Deniro (third left), Michael Douglas (third right), Adrien Brody (second right), and Sir Anthony Hopkins.

And then it was Slumdog Millionaire all the way. Out of a total 10 nominations, 2 of which were in the best song category, Slumdog Millionaire won 8 Oscars. Showcasing the lives of slum children from Mumbai, the movie captured the imagination of everyone across the world.
