Ghaziabad is an industrial city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located about 1.5 km east of the Hindon River and is 19 km east of Delhi and 46 km southwest of Meerut. The city houses the headquarters of the Ghaziabad district. The city gets its name from the founder Ghazi-ud-din, who called it Ghaziuddinnagar after himself. Later the name was shortened to Ghaziabad. It is a large industrial city well-connected by roads and railways. It has industries that manufacture railway coaches, diesel engines, bicycles, tapestries, glassware, pottery, paint and varnish, heavy chains, etc. Recently a number of malls and multiplexes have come up in the city and its on its way to become a world class city and shopping getaway for people in Delhi and NCR regions.

As it is adjacent to Delhi, its temperature and rainfall are similar to that of Delhi. The dust storms in Rajasthan and snowfall in the Himalayas, Kumaon and Garhwal hills impact the weather regularly. The monsoon usually arrives at the end of the June or the first week of July and normally the rainy season lasts till October. A new picnic hub in Ghaziabad-Delhi NCR

The Indira Priyadarshani Park, situated at Arthla G.T. Road is a new picnic tourist spot not just for SIS and Trans Hindon colonies but also for near by areas of Delhi.

A lake situated in the park, is spread over an area of 25 acres and is the biggest fresh water lake in NCR. About 300 tortoises, 8 pair of ducks and various kinds of fishes have been brought here for natural purification of the lake. Since November 2008 a boating club has been started on a trial basis. 10 paddle boats have been arranged from Hyderabad. Out of which 6 boats are 2 seated and 4 are 4 seated. 20 more boats and 5 motor boats have been proposed for the next season of the boating club.

To increases the volume of oxygen   and to make the water transparent, 3 jet fountains and 4 compressors are being used in the lake. As a safety measure guards are present here all the time. The project is estimated to cost more then 20 cores, out of which 4 cores have already been spent till date. The land has been provided by the Nagarnigam on a lease of 25 years.

Proposed projects for the park are a mini zoo, a herbal garden, an amusement park and a restaurant. An open theater, a kid zone and an adventure zone have already been completed.
